Mikesell Trust Fund – this fund supports local, regional, national, and international Christian mission efforts. This fund has allocated 1.5 million dollars in aid in the last 12-15 years.
General Congregation Mission Support – congregants donate to help the Presbyterian Church including the following fund:
General Assembly, Presbytery, National Ministry, Community
Mission Trips – Congregants and Youth annually participate in mission trips, some local and others nationally and internationally. Youth ask for sponsorships to help them make these missions possible. Some missions have included: Mexico, Haiti, Appalachia, Africa to name a few.
Other Local Missions
CROP – walk to help with hunger efforts in October. To walk or sponsor a walker, call the church office.
Bellringing – this supports the Christmas Kettle Drive for Darke County helping many organizations including Community Unity, Toys for Tikes and Young Teens, and other local food banks
Summer Lunch Program – offers children in need with a free lunch on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the summer. Program is from 11:30am-12:30pm. Lunch is served at 11:30am. Activities are from 12:00-12:30pm.
Tutoring – Congregants help the Greenville School System by tutoring children in need of help in various subjects.
The Light Foundation – the church sponsors and participates in the character-building camps for kids and teens brought to Darke County by the Light Foundation.
Sewing Group – this groups meets on the 4th Monday of the month to sew laprobes, shawls, baby blankets and much more for homebound members, nursing homes, and other special projects.
Recreation – The church congregants participate in many fun leagues countywide with other churches including dartball and softball. Watch for schedules in the monthly newsletter The Link. You can find The Link on our Community News page.
Media – Congregants interested in multi-media have a chance to serve the church by videography of services, sound systems, etc. The First Presbyterian Church runs its worship service every Wednesday at 8pm the Greenville Public Access Channel. Worship services are also placed on DVD in our library and are available for purchase from the church office.
Carillon Bells – A lovely mission that serves the downtown Greenville area with beautiful bell music each hour yearly, and special bell music during Lenten, and Advent season, given in memory and honor of the Grimes Family, for Marion.
Local Missions for those in need: Our church supports the following programs that Darke County residents in need can seek help from for basic needs:
FISH – FISH is a food pantry open on Mondays from 1 to 2 p.m., Wednesdays from 10 to 11 a.m., and Fridays from 4 to 5 p.m. No appointment is needed. It is located at 400 Markwith Avenue in Greenville. Call 937-548-2000 for more information.
Community Unity – Located at 433 East Water Street in Greenville, Community Unity provides a food pantry and utility reimbursement services to those families and individuals struggling with financial instability. Call 937-547-1156 for assistance.
Grace Resurrection Center – Soup kitchen, food pantry and clothing bank for those in need. It is also located at 433 East Water Street in Greenville. The soup kitchen serves meals from 11 a.m. to noon on Mondays through Thursdays (doors open for fellowship at 10 a.m.). The food pantry distributes groceries from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays. Food may be picked up twice a month. The clothing bank offers clothing free of charge on Thursdays from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Medical assistance and a backpack program are also available. Meals on Wheels – A non-profit community service that delivers meals to homebound community members who are unable to prepare adequate, nutritious meals for themselves. Meals are delivered within Greenville. For more details, call 937-548-1138.
